Rogers' Christmas House Village

A few days ago I made a seasonal visit to Rogers’ Christmas House Village. There were a good number of other shoppers on that Sunday afternoon but nowhere near as many as other times.

The five houses have their individual themes, each one with various and unique items of interest. There's the Main House, The Cottage, the Magnolia House, the Little House Under the Oak and the Story Book House. Each of their doors are open, a feeling of warmth and belonging just over their thresholds. There's no need to rush, and quite a difficult prospect as you look and ponder the treasures to behold.

Even some of there display props catch the eye, yet they're not for sale!

It’s easy to find something for anyone and everyone, including yourself. I don’t typically make the rounds of Christmas shopping with intentions to purchase something for myself. It’s a selfish act that taints the Spirit of the Holiday season.

This year was different. Although I bought gifts for friends, neighbors and relatives as I have done for previous Christmases, my eyes were tantalized by out-of-season items that will accent my home year round. I gave in to my own desires because I feared they would be gone before my next visit. I’ve committed to use a cash gift that my Aunt usually sends. She will be pleased on her next visit to my home.

It’s a shame that Rogers’ has a cash flow problem and may face bankruptcy in the near future. Hopefully, this Holiday Season will offer a bit of a reprieve but the economy in general suggests otherwise.

A visit to the privately owned business can uplift the spirits from the moment you enter the fairy-tale atmosphere. The customer associates have a cheerful demeanor that lightens the soul. They may not be elves but it’s not out of place to think of them as self-made-Santa Helpers. It’s obvious that other shoppers relish the same feeling of joy and good will. Indeed, it's a very Merry place to spend some time.

Since they are open year round, I plan to make another visit soon. There’s a certain day in January when I can celebrate my day of birth. I already know what’s on my birthday list, thank you very much Rogers’ Christmas House!
